then you disputed

ٱضْرِبُوهُ
"Strike him

بِبَعْضِهَا

قَسْوَةً
(in) hardness.

split,

فَيَخْرُجُ
so comes out

يَهْبِطُ
fall down

بِغَٰفِلٍ
unaware

أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ
Do you hope

while indeed

يُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ
they distort it

عَقَلُوهُ
they understood it,

لَقُوا۟
they meet

خَلَا
meet in private

أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم
"Do you tell them

فَتَحَ
has

لِيُحَآجُّوكُم
so that they argue with you

يُعْلِنُونَ
they declare?

أُمِّيُّونَ
(are) unlettered ones,

فَوَيْلٌ
So woe
×5
يَكْتُبُونَ
write
×3
بِأَيْدِيهِمْ
with their (own) hands
×1
لِيَشْتَرُوا۟
to barter
×10
ثَمَنًا
(for) a price
×2
كَتَبَتْ
have written
×3
أَيَّامًا
(for) days
×1
أَتَّخَذْتُمْ
"Have you taken
×1
عَهْدَهُۥٓ
His Covenant?
×1
وَأَحَٰطَتْ
and surrounded him
×1
خَطِيٓـَٔتُهُۥ
his sins -
×1
إِحْسَانًا
(be) good
×1
وَذِى
and (with)
×11
وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ
and the needy,
×23
حُسْنًا
good,
×4
مِيثَٰقَكُمْ
your covenant,
×1
تَسْفِكُونَ
will you shed
×1
دِمَآءَكُمْ
your blood
×1
أَقْرَرْتُمْ
you ratified
×1
وَتُخْرِجُونَ
and evict
×5
بِٱلْإِثْمِ
in sin
×5
وَٱلْعُدْوَٰنِ
and [the] transgression.
×1
يَأْتُوكُمْ
they come to you
×1
تُفَٰدُوهُمْ
you ransom them,
