Ayah 1
وَٱلطُّورِ By the Mount,
English - By the mount .
Ayah 2
وَكِتَٰبٍ And by (the) Book مَّسْطُورٍ written
English - And [by] a Book inscribed .
Ayah 3
فِى In رَقٍّ parchment مَّنشُورٍ unrolled,
English - In parchment spread open .
Ayah 4
وَٱلْبَيْتِ By the House ٱلْمَعْمُورِ frequented
English - And [by] the frequented House .
Ayah 5
وَٱلسَّقْفِ By the roof ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ raised high
English - And [by] the heaven raised high .
Ayah 6
وَٱلْبَحْرِ By the sea ٱلْمَسْجُورِ filled
English - And [by] the sea filled [with fire], .
Ayah 7
إِنَّ Indeed, عَذَابَ (the) punishment رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord لَوَٰقِعٌ (will) surely occur.
English - Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. .
Ayah 8
مَّا Not لَهُۥ for it مِن any دَافِعٍ preventer.
English - Of it there is no preventer. .
Ayah 9
يَوْمَ (On the) Day تَمُورُ will shake ٱلسَّمَآءُ the heaven مَوْرًا (with violent) shake
English - On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion .
Ayah 10
وَتَسِيرُ And will move away, ٱلْجِبَالُ the mountains سَيْرًا (with an awful) movement
English - And the mountains will pass on, departing – .
Ayah 11
فَوَيْلٌ Then woe, يَوْمَئِذٍ that Day, لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ to the deniers,
English - Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, .
Ayah 12
ٱلَّذِينَ Who هُمْ [they] فِى in خَوْضٍ (vain) discourse يَلْعَبُونَ are playing.
English - Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. .
Ayah 13
يَوْمَ (The) Day يُدَعُّونَ they will be thrust إِلَىٰ (in)to نَارِ (the) Fire جَهَنَّمَ (of) Hell دَعًّا (with) a thrust.
English - The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], .
Ayah 14
هَٰذِهِ "This ٱلنَّارُ (is) the Fire ٱلَّتِى which كُنتُم you used to بِهَا [of it] تُكَذِّبُونَ deny.
English - "This is the Fire which you used to deny. .
Ayah 15
أَفَسِحْرٌ Then is this magic, هَٰذَآ Then is this magic, أَمْ or أَنتُمْ you لَا (do) not تُبْصِرُونَ see?
English - Then is this magic, or do you not see? .
Ayah 16
ٱصْلَوْهَا Burn in it فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ then be patient أَوْ or لَا (do) not تَصْبِرُوا۟ be patient, سَوَآءٌ (it is) same عَلَيْكُمْ for you. إِنَّمَا Only تُجْزَوْنَ you are being recompensed مَا (for) what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do."
English - [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient – it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." .
Ayah 17
إِنَّ Indeed, ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous فِى (will be) in جَنَّٰتٍ Gardens وَنَعِيمٍ and pleasure,
English - Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, .
Ayah 18
فَٰكِهِينَ Enjoying بِمَآ in what ءَاتَىٰهُمْ has given them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord, وَوَقَىٰهُمْ and protected them رَبُّهُمْ their Lord عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) Hellfire.
English - Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. .
Ayah 19
كُلُوا۟ "Eat وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ and drink هَنِيٓـًٔۢا (in) satisfaction بِمَا for what كُنتُمْ you used to تَعْمَلُونَ do."
English - [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." .
Ayah 20
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining عَلَىٰ on سُرُرٍ thrones مَّصْفُوفَةٍ lined up, وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم and We will marry them بِحُورٍ to fair ones عِينٍ (with) large eyes.
English - They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. .
Ayah 21
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who ءَامَنُوا۟ believed وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ and followed them ذُرِّيَّتُهُم their offspring بِإِيمَٰنٍ in faith, أَلْحَقْنَا We will join بِهِمْ with them ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ their offspring وَمَآ and not أَلَتْنَٰهُم We will deprive them مِّنْ of عَمَلِهِم their deeds مِّن (in) any شَىْءٍ thing. كُلُّ Every ٱمْرِئٍۭ person بِمَا for what كَسَبَ he earned رَهِينٌ (is) pledged.
English - And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith – We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. .
Ayah 22
وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم And We will provide them بِفَٰكِهَةٍ with fruit وَلَحْمٍ and meat مِّمَّا from what يَشْتَهُونَ they desire.
English - And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. .
Ayah 23
يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ They will pass to one another فِيهَا therein كَأْسًا a cup, لَّا no لَغْوٌ ill speech فِيهَا therein وَلَا and no تَأْثِيمٌ sin.
English - They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. .
Ayah 24
وَيَطُوفُ And will circulate عَلَيْهِمْ among them غِلْمَانٌ boys لَّهُمْ for them, كَأَنَّهُمْ as if they (were) لُؤْلُؤٌ pearls مَّكْنُونٌ well-protected.
English - There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. .
Ayah 25
وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach بَعْضُهُمْ some of them عَلَىٰ to بَعْضٍ others يَتَسَآءَلُونَ inquiring.
English - And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. .
Ayah 26
قَالُوٓا۟ They will say, إِنَّا "Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] were قَبْلُ before فِىٓ among أَهْلِنَا our families مُشْفِقِينَ fearful,
English - They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. .
Ayah 27
فَمَنَّ But Allah conferred favor ٱللَّهُ But Allah conferred favor عَلَيْنَا upon us, وَوَقَىٰنَا and protected us عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ٱلسَّمُومِ (of) the Scorching Fire.
English - So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. .
Ayah 28
إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] used to مِن before قَبْلُ before نَدْعُوهُ call Him. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلْبَرُّ (is) the Most Kind, ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful."
English - Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." .
Ayah 29
فَذَكِّرْ Therefore remind, فَمَآ for not أَنتَ you بِنِعْمَتِ (are) by (the) grace رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord بِكَاهِنٍ a soothsayer, وَلَا and not مَجْنُونٍ a madman.
English - So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. .
Ayah 30
أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ (do) they say, شَاعِرٌ "A poet, نَّتَرَبَّصُ we wait بِهِۦ for him رَيْبَ a misfortune of time." ٱلْمَنُونِ a misfortune of time."
English - Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?" .
Ayah 31
قُلْ Say, تَرَبَّصُوا۟ "Wait, فَإِنِّى for indeed I am, مَعَكُم with you, مِّنَ among ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ those who wait."
English - Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters." .
Ayah 32
أَمْ Or تَأْمُرُهُمْ command them أَحْلَٰمُهُم their minds بِهَٰذَآ this, أَمْ or هُمْ they قَوْمٌ (are) a people طَاغُونَ transgressing?
English - Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people? .
Ayah 33
أَمْ Or يَقُولُونَ (do) they say, تَقَوَّلَهُۥ "He has made it up" بَل Nay, لَّا not يُؤْمِنُونَ they believe.
English - Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe. .
Ayah 34
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ Then let them bring بِحَدِيثٍ a statement مِّثْلِهِۦٓ like it, إِن if كَانُوا۟ they are صَٰدِقِينَ truthful.
English - Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful. .
Ayah 35
أَمْ Or خُلِقُوا۟ they were created مِنْ of غَيْرِ nothing, شَىْءٍ nothing, أَمْ or هُمُ (are) they ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ the creators?
English - Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? .
Ayah 36
أَمْ Or خَلَقُوا۟ (did) they create ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth? بَل Nay, لَّا not يُوقِنُونَ they are certain.
English - Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain. .
Ayah 37
أَمْ Or عِندَهُمْ with them خَزَآئِنُ (are the) treasures رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord أَمْ or هُمُ (are) they ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ the controllers?
English - Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? .
Ayah 38
أَمْ Or لَهُمْ for them سُلَّمٌ (is) a stairway, يَسْتَمِعُونَ they listen فِيهِ therewith? فَلْيَأْتِ Then let bring, مُسْتَمِعُهُم their listener, بِسُلْطَٰنٍ an authority مُّبِينٍ clear.
English - Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority. .
Ayah 39
أَمْ Or لَهُ for Him ٱلْبَنَٰتُ (are) daughters وَلَكُمُ while for you ٱلْبَنُونَ (are) sons?
English - Or has He daughters while you have sons? .
Ayah 40
أَمْ Or تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ (do) you ask from them أَجْرًا a payment, فَهُم so they مِّن from مَّغْرَمٍ a debt مُّثْقَلُونَ (are) overburdened.
English - Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? .
Ayah 41
أَمْ Or عِندَهُمُ with them ٱلْغَيْبُ (is) the unseen, فَهُمْ so they يَكْتُبُونَ write (it) down?
English - Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? .
Ayah 42
أَمْ Or يُرِيدُونَ (do) they intend كَيْدًا a plot? فَٱلَّذِينَ But those who كَفَرُوا۟ disbelieve, هُمُ themselves ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ (are in) the plot.
English - Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve – they are the object of a plan. .
Ayah 43
أَمْ Or لَهُمْ for them إِلَٰهٌ a god غَيْرُ other than ٱللَّهِ Allah? سُبْحَٰنَ Glory be ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah عَمَّا from what يُشْرِكُونَ they associate (with Him).
English - Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. .
Ayah 44
وَإِن And if يَرَوْا۟ they were to see كِسْفًا a portion مِّنَ from ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky سَاقِطًا falling, يَقُولُوا۟ they will say, سَحَابٌ "Clouds مَّرْكُومٌ heaped up."
English - And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." .
Ayah 45
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them حَتَّىٰ until يُلَٰقُوا۟ they meet يَوْمَهُمُ their Day ٱلَّذِى which فِيهِ in it يُصْعَقُونَ they will faint.
English - So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible – .
Ayah 46
يَوْمَ (The) Day لَا not يُغْنِى will avail عَنْهُمْ to them كَيْدُهُمْ their plotting شَيْـًٔا (in) anything, وَلَا and not هُمْ they يُنصَرُونَ will be helped.
English - The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped. .
Ayah 47
وَإِنَّ And indeed, لِلَّذِينَ for those who ظَلَمُوا۟ do wrong, عَذَابًا (is) a punishment دُونَ before ذَٰلِكَ that, وَلَٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know.
English - And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. .
Ayah 48
وَٱصْبِرْ So be patient, لِحُكْمِ for (the) Command رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord, فَإِنَّكَ for indeed, you بِأَعْيُنِنَا (are) in Our Eyes. وَسَبِّحْ And glorify بِحَمْدِ (the) praise رَبِّكَ (of) your Lord حِينَ when تَقُومُ you arise,
English - And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise. .
Ayah 49
وَمِنَ And of ٱلَّيْلِ the night, فَسَبِّحْهُ glorify Him, وَإِدْبَٰرَ and after ٱلنُّجُومِ the stars.
English - And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars. .
