Ayah 1
حمٓ Ha Meem.
English - Ha, Meem. .
Ayah 2
وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ By the Book ٱلْمُبِينِ the clear,
English - By the clear Book, .
Ayah 3
إِنَّآ Indeed, We أَنزَلْنَٰهُ revealed it فِى in لَيْلَةٍ a Night مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ Blessed. إِنَّا Indeed, We كُنَّا [We] are مُنذِرِينَ (ever) warning.
English - Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. .
Ayah 4
فِيهَا Therein يُفْرَقُ is made distinct كُلُّ every أَمْرٍ affair, حَكِيمٍ wise,
English - On that night is made distinct every precise matter – .
Ayah 5
أَمْرًا A command مِّنْ from عِندِنَآ Us. إِنَّا Indeed, We كُنَّا [We] are مُرْسِلِينَ (ever) sending,
English - [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] .
Ayah 6
رَحْمَةً As Mercy مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلسَّمِيعُ (is) the All-Hearer, ٱلْعَلِيمُ the All-Knower.
English - As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. .
Ayah 7
رَبِّ Lord ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ (of) the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضِ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَآ (is) between both of them, إِن if كُنتُم you are مُّوقِنِينَ certain.
English - Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. .
Ayah 8
لَآ (There is) no إِلَٰهَ god إِلَّا except هُوَ Him; يُحْىِۦ He gives life وَيُمِيتُ and causes death, رَبُّكُمْ your Lord وَرَبُّ and (the) Lord ءَابَآئِكُمُ (of) your fathers ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ the former.
English - There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. .
Ayah 9
بَلْ Nay, هُمْ they فِى (are) in شَكٍّ doubt - يَلْعَبُونَ playing.
English - But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. .
Ayah 10
فَٱرْتَقِبْ Then watch يَوْمَ (for the) Day تَأْتِى (when) will bring ٱلسَّمَآءُ the sky بِدُخَانٍ smoke مُّبِينٍ visible,
English - Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. .
Ayah 11
يَغْشَى Enveloping ٱلنَّاسَ the people. هَٰذَا This عَذَابٌ (will be) a punishment أَلِيمٌ painful.
English - Covering the people; this is a painful torment. .
Ayah 12
رَّبَّنَا "Our Lord! ٱكْشِفْ Remove عَنَّا from us ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment; إِنَّا indeed, we مُؤْمِنُونَ (are) believers."
English - [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." .
Ayah 13
أَنَّىٰ How can لَهُمُ (there be) for them ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ the reminder, وَقَدْ when verily, جَآءَهُمْ had come to them رَسُولٌ a Messenger مُّبِينٌ clear.
English - How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. .
Ayah 14
ثُمَّ Then تَوَلَّوْا۟ they turned away عَنْهُ from him وَقَالُوا۟ and said, مُعَلَّمٌ "One taught, مَّجْنُونٌ a mad man."
English - Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." .
Ayah 15
إِنَّا Indeed, We كَاشِفُوا۟ (will) remove ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment قَلِيلًا a little, إِنَّكُمْ indeed, you عَآئِدُونَ (will) return.
English - Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. .
Ayah 16
يَوْمَ (The) Day نَبْطِشُ We will seize ٱلْبَطْشَةَ (with) the seizure ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ the greatest, إِنَّا indeed, We مُنتَقِمُونَ (will) take retribution.
English - The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. .
Ayah 17
وَلَقَدْ And certainly, فَتَنَّا We tried قَبْلَهُمْ before them قَوْمَ (the) people فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun, وَجَآءَهُمْ and came to them رَسُولٌ a Messenger كَرِيمٌ noble.
English - And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, .
Ayah 18
أَنْ That, أَدُّوٓا۟ "Deliver إِلَىَّ to me عِبَادَ (the) servants ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah. إِنِّى Indeed, I am لَكُمْ to you رَسُولٌ a Messenger أَمِينٌ trustworthy.
English - [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," .
Ayah 19
وَأَن And that لَّا (do) not تَعْلُوا۟ exalt yourselves عَلَى against ٱللَّهِ Allah. إِنِّىٓ Indeed, I ءَاتِيكُم [I] have come to you بِسُلْطَٰنٍ with an authority مُّبِينٍ clear.
English - And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. .
Ayah 20
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I عُذْتُ [I] seek refuge بِرَبِّى with my Lord وَرَبِّكُمْ and your Lord أَن lest تَرْجُمُونِ you stone me.
English - And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. .
Ayah 21
وَإِن And if لَّمْ not تُؤْمِنُوا۟ you believe لِى me, فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ then leave me alone."
English - But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." .
Ayah 22
فَدَعَا So he called رَبَّهُۥٓ his Lord, أَنَّ "That هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ these قَوْمٌ (are) a people مُّجْرِمُونَ criminals."
English - And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. .
Ayah 23
فَأَسْرِ Then "Set out بِعِبَادِى with My slaves لَيْلًا (by) night. إِنَّكُم Indeed, you مُّتَّبَعُونَ (will be) followed.
English - [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. .
Ayah 24
وَٱتْرُكِ And leave ٱلْبَحْرَ the sea رَهْوًا at rest. إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they جُندٌ (are) an army مُّغْرَقُونَ (to be) drowned."
English - And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." .
Ayah 25
كَمْ How many تَرَكُوا۟ (did) they leave مِن of جَنَّٰتٍ gardens وَعُيُونٍ and springs,
English - How much they left behind of gardens and springs .
Ayah 26
وَزُرُوعٍ And cornfields وَمَقَامٍ and places كَرِيمٍ noble,
English - And crops and noble sites .
Ayah 27
وَنَعْمَةٍ And pleasant things كَانُوا۟ they used to فِيهَا therein فَٰكِهِينَ take delight!
English - And comfort wherein they were amused. .
Ayah 28
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus. وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا And We made it (an) inherit(ance) قَوْمًا (for) a people ءَاخَرِينَ another.
English - Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. .
Ayah 29
فَمَا And not بَكَتْ wept عَلَيْهِمُ for them ٱلسَّمَآءُ the heaven وَٱلْأَرْضُ and the earth وَمَا and not كَانُوا۟ they were مُنظَرِينَ given respite.
English - And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. .
Ayah 30
وَلَقَدْ And certainly, نَجَّيْنَا We saved بَنِىٓ (the) Children of Israel إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ (the) Children of Israel مِنَ from ٱلْعَذَابِ the punishment ٱلْمُهِينِ the humiliating,
English - And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment – .
Ayah 31
مِن From فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he كَانَ was عَالِيًا arrogant مِّنَ among ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ the transgressors.
English - From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors. .
Ayah 32
وَلَقَدِ And certainly ٱخْتَرْنَٰهُمْ We chose them عَلَىٰ by عِلْمٍ knowledge عَلَى over ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ the worlds.
English - And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds. .
Ayah 33
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم And We gave them مِّنَ of ٱلْءَايَٰتِ the Signs مَا that فِيهِ in it بَلَٰٓؤٌا۟ (was) a trial مُّبِينٌ clear.
English - And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial. .
Ayah 34
إِنَّ Indeed, هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ these لَيَقُولُونَ surely, they say,
English - Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying, .
Ayah 35
إِنْ "Not هِىَ it إِلَّا (is) but مَوْتَتُنَا our death ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first وَمَا and not نَحْنُ we بِمُنشَرِينَ (will be) raised again.
English - "There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected. .
Ayah 36
فَأْتُوا۟ Then bring بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ our forefathers, إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَٰدِقِينَ truthful."
English - Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful." .
Ayah 37
أَهُمْ Are they خَيْرٌ better أَمْ or قَوْمُ (the) people تُبَّعٍ (of) Tubba وَٱلَّذِينَ and those مِن before them? قَبْلِهِمْ before them? أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ We destroyed them, إِنَّهُمْ indeed, they كَانُوا۟ were مُجْرِمِينَ criminals.
English - Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals. .
Ayah 38
وَمَا And not خَلَقْنَا We created ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ the heavens وَٱلْأَرْضَ and the earth وَمَا and whatever بَيْنَهُمَا (is) between them لَٰعِبِينَ (in) play.
English - And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play. .
Ayah 39
مَا Not خَلَقْنَٰهُمَآ We created both of them إِلَّا but بِٱلْحَقِّ in [the] truth, وَلَٰكِنَّ but أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know.
English - We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know. .
Ayah 40
إِنَّ Indeed, يَوْمَ (the) Day of Judgment ٱلْفَصْلِ (the) Day of Judgment مِيقَٰتُهُمْ (is) an appointed term for them أَجْمَعِينَ all.
English - Indeed, the Day of Judgment is the appointed time for them all – .
Ayah 41
يَوْمَ (The) Day لَا not يُغْنِى will avail مَوْلًى a relation عَن for مَّوْلًى a relation شَيْـًٔا anything وَلَا and not هُمْ they يُنصَرُونَ will be helped.
English - The Day when no relation will avail a relation at all, nor will they be helped – .
Ayah 42
إِلَّا Except, مَن (on) whom رَّحِمَ Allah has mercy. ٱللَّهُ Allah has mercy. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He هُوَ [He] ٱلْعَزِيزُ (is) the All-Mighty, ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful.
English - Except those [believers] on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. .
Ayah 43
إِنَّ Indeed, شَجَرَتَ (the) tree ٱلزَّقُّومِ (of) Zaqqum
English - Indeed, the tree of zaqqūm .
Ayah 44
طَعَامُ (Will be) food ٱلْأَثِيمِ (of) the sinner(s).
English - Is food for the sinful. .
Ayah 45
كَٱلْمُهْلِ Like the murky oil, يَغْلِى it will boil فِى in ٱلْبُطُونِ the bellies,
English - Like murky oil, it boils within bellies .
Ayah 46
كَغَلْىِ Like boiling ٱلْحَمِيمِ (of) scalding water.
English - Like the boiling of scalding water. .
Ayah 47
خُذُوهُ "Seize him فَٱعْتِلُوهُ and drag him إِلَىٰ into سَوَآءِ (the) midst ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) the Hellfire,
English - [It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire, .
Ayah 48
ثُمَّ Then صُبُّوا۟ pour فَوْقَ over رَأْسِهِۦ his head مِنْ of عَذَابِ (the) punishment ٱلْحَمِيمِ (of) the scalding water.
English - Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water." .
Ayah 49
ذُقْ Taste! إِنَّكَ Indeed, you أَنتَ [you] (were) ٱلْعَزِيزُ the mighty, ٱلْكَرِيمُ the noble.
English - [It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble! .
Ayah 50
إِنَّ Indeed, هَٰذَا this مَا (is) what كُنتُم you used to بِهِۦ [about it] تَمْتَرُونَ doubt."
English - Indeed, this is what you used to dispute." .
Ayah 51
إِنَّ Indeed, ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ the righteous فِى (will be) in مَقَامٍ a place أَمِينٍ secure,
English - Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place; .
Ayah 52
فِى In جَنَّٰتٍ gardens وَعُيُونٍ and springs,
English - Within gardens and springs, .
Ayah 53
يَلْبَسُونَ Wearing garments مِن of سُندُسٍ fine silk وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ and heavy silk, مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ facing each other.
English - Wearing [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other. .
Ayah 54
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus. وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم And We will marry them بِحُورٍ (to) companions with beautiful eyes. عِينٍ (to) companions with beautiful eyes.
English - Thus. And We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. .
Ayah 55
يَدْعُونَ They will call فِيهَا therein بِكُلِّ for every (kind) فَٰكِهَةٍ (of) fruit, ءَامِنِينَ secure.
English - They will call therein for every [kind of] fruit – safe and secure. .
Ayah 56
لَا Not يَذُوقُونَ they will taste فِيهَا therein ٱلْمَوْتَ the death إِلَّا except ٱلْمَوْتَةَ the death ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first. وَوَقَىٰهُمْ And He will protect them عَذَابَ (from the) punishment ٱلْجَحِيمِ (of) the Hellfire,
English - They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfire .
Ayah 57
فَضْلًا A Bounty مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord. ذَٰلِكَ That - هُوَ it ٱلْفَوْزُ (will be) the success ٱلْعَظِيمُ the great.
English - As bounty from your Lord. That is what is the great attainment. .
Ayah 58
فَإِنَّمَا Indeed, يَسَّرْنَٰهُ We have made it easy بِلِسَانِكَ in your tongue لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ take heed.
English - And indeed, We have eased the Qur’an in your tongue that they might be reminded. .
Ayah 59
فَٱرْتَقِبْ So watch; إِنَّهُم indeed, they مُّرْتَقِبُونَ (too are) watching.
English - So watch, [O Muhammad]; indeed, they are watching [for your end]. .
