Ayah 1
طسٓمٓ Ta Seem Meem.
English - Ta, Seen, Meem. .
Ayah 2
تِلْكَ These ءَايَٰتُ (are the) Verses ٱلْكِتَٰبِ (of) the Book ٱلْمُبِينِ the clear.
English - These are the verses of the clear Book. .
Ayah 3
نَتْلُوا۟ We recite عَلَيْكَ to you مِن from نَّبَإِ (the) news مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa وَفِرْعَوْنَ and Firaun بِٱلْحَقِّ in truth لِقَوْمٍ for a people يُؤْمِنُونَ who believe.
English - We recite to you from the news of Moses and Pharaoh in truth for a people who believe. .
Ayah 4
إِنَّ Indeed, فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun عَلَا exalted himself فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land وَجَعَلَ and made أَهْلَهَا its people شِيَعًا (into) sects, يَسْتَضْعِفُ oppressing طَآئِفَةً a group مِّنْهُمْ among them, يُذَبِّحُ slaughtering أَبْنَآءَهُمْ their sons وَيَسْتَحْىِۦ and letting live نِسَآءَهُمْ their women. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he كَانَ was مِنَ of ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ the corrupters.
English - Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters. .
Ayah 5
وَنُرِيدُ And We wanted أَن to نَّمُنَّ bestow a favor عَلَى upon ٱلَّذِينَ those who ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ were oppressed فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ and make them أَئِمَّةً leaders وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ and make them ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ the inheritors,
English - And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors .
Ayah 6
وَنُمَكِّنَ And [We] establish لَهُمْ them فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land وَنُرِىَ and show فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun وَهَٰمَٰنَ and Haman وَجُنُودَهُمَا and their hosts مِنْهُم through them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they were يَحْذَرُونَ fearing.
English - And establish them in the land and show Pharaoh and [his minister] Haman and their soldiers through them that which they had feared. .
Ayah 7
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ And We inspired إِلَىٰٓ [to] أُمِّ (the) mother مُوسَىٰٓ (of) Musa أَنْ that, أَرْضِعِيهِ "Suckle him, فَإِذَا but when خِفْتِ you fear عَلَيْهِ for him, فَأَلْقِيهِ then cast him فِى in(to) ٱلْيَمِّ the river وَلَا and (do) not تَخَافِى fear وَلَا and (do) not تَحْزَنِىٓ grieve. إِنَّا Indeed, We رَآدُّوهُ (will) restore him إِلَيْكِ to you وَجَاعِلُوهُ and (will) make him مِنَ of ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers."
English - And We inspired to the mother of Moses, “Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers.” .
Ayah 8
فَٱلْتَقَطَهُۥٓ Then picked him up ءَالُ (the) family فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun لِيَكُونَ so that he might become لَهُمْ to them عَدُوًّا an enemy وَحَزَنًا and a grief. إِنَّ Indeed, فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun وَهَٰمَٰنَ and Haman وَجُنُودَهُمَا and their hosts كَانُوا۟ were خَٰطِـِٔينَ sinners.
English - And the family of Pharaoh picked him up [out of the river] so that he would become to them an enemy and a [cause of] grief. Indeed, Pharaoh and Haman and their soldiers were deliberate sinners. .
Ayah 9
وَقَالَتِ And said ٱمْرَأَتُ (the) wife فِرْعَوْنَ (of) Firaun, قُرَّتُ "A comfort عَيْنٍ (of the) eye لِّى for me وَلَكَ and for you; لَا (Do) not تَقْتُلُوهُ kill him; عَسَىٰٓ perhaps أَن (that) يَنفَعَنَآ he may benefit us, أَوْ or نَتَّخِذَهُۥ we may take him وَلَدًا (as) a son." وَهُمْ And they لَا (did) not يَشْعُرُونَ perceive.
English - And the wife of Pharaoh said, “[He will be] a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son.” And they perceived not. .
Ayah 10
وَأَصْبَحَ And became فُؤَادُ (the) heart أُمِّ (of the) mother مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa فَٰرِغًا empty. إِن That, كَادَتْ she was near لَتُبْدِى (to) disclosing بِهِۦ about him, لَوْلَآ if not أَن that رَّبَطْنَا We strengthened عَلَىٰ [over] قَلْبِهَا her heart, لِتَكُونَ so that she would be مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers.
English - And the heart of Moses’ mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers. .
Ayah 11
وَقَالَتْ And she said لِأُخْتِهِۦ to his sister, قُصِّيهِ "Follow him." فَبَصُرَتْ So she watched بِهِۦ him عَن from جُنُبٍ a distance وَهُمْ while they لَا (did) not يَشْعُرُونَ perceive.
English - And she said to his sister, “Follow him”; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not. .
Ayah 12
وَحَرَّمْنَا And We had forbidden عَلَيْهِ for him ٱلْمَرَاضِعَ the wet nurses مِن before, قَبْلُ before, فَقَالَتْ so she said, هَلْ "Shall I أَدُلُّكُمْ direct you عَلَىٰٓ to أَهْلِ (the) people بَيْتٍ (of) a house يَكْفُلُونَهُۥ who will rear him لَكُمْ for you وَهُمْ while they لَهُۥ to him نَٰصِحُونَ (will be) sincere?"
English - And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, “Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?” .
Ayah 13
فَرَدَدْنَٰهُ So We restored him إِلَىٰٓ to أُمِّهِۦ his mother كَىْ that تَقَرَّ might be comforted عَيْنُهَا her eye, وَلَا and not تَحْزَنَ she may grieve وَلِتَعْلَمَ and that she would know, أَنَّ that وَعْدَ the Promise of Allah ٱللَّهِ the Promise of Allah حَقٌّ (is) true. وَلَٰكِنَّ But أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know.
English - So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know. .
Ayah 14
وَلَمَّا And when بَلَغَ he reached أَشُدَّهُۥ his full strength وَٱسْتَوَىٰٓ and became mature, ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ We bestowed upon him حُكْمًا wisdom وَعِلْمًا and knowledge. وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus نَجْزِى We reward ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ the good-doers.
English - And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgment and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good. .
Ayah 15
وَدَخَلَ And he entered ٱلْمَدِينَةَ the city عَلَىٰ at حِينِ a time غَفْلَةٍ (of) inattention مِّنْ of أَهْلِهَا its people فَوَجَدَ and found فِيهَا therein رَجُلَيْنِ two men يَقْتَتِلَانِ fighting each other; هَٰذَا this مِن of شِيعَتِهِۦ his party وَهَٰذَا and this مِنْ of عَدُوِّهِۦ his enemy. فَٱسْتَغَٰثَهُ And called him for help ٱلَّذِى the one who مِن (was) from شِيعَتِهِۦ his party عَلَى against ٱلَّذِى the one who مِنْ (was) from عَدُوِّهِۦ his enemy, فَوَكَزَهُۥ so Musa struck him with his fist مُوسَىٰ so Musa struck him with his fist فَقَضَىٰ and killed him. عَلَيْهِ and killed him. قَالَ He said, هَٰذَا "This (is) مِنْ of عَمَلِ (the) deed ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ (of) Shaitaan. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he عَدُوٌّ (is) an enemy - مُّضِلٌّ one who misleads مُّبِينٌ clearly."
English - And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, “This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy.” .
Ayah 16
قَالَ He said, رَبِّ "My Lord! إِنِّى Indeed, I ظَلَمْتُ [I] have wronged نَفْسِى my soul, فَٱغْفِرْ so forgive لِى [for] me." فَغَفَرَ Then He forgave لَهُۥٓ [for] him. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed He, هُوَ He (is) ٱلْغَفُورُ the Oft-Forgiving, ٱلرَّحِيمُ the Most Merciful.
English - He said, “My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me,” and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. .
Ayah 17
قَالَ He said, رَبِّ "My Lord! بِمَآ Because أَنْعَمْتَ You have favored عَلَىَّ [on] me, فَلَنْ so not أَكُونَ I will be ظَهِيرًا a supporter لِّلْمُجْرِمِينَ (of) the criminals."
English - He said, “My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals.” .
Ayah 18
فَأَصْبَحَ In the morning he was فِى in ٱلْمَدِينَةِ the city خَآئِفًا fearful يَتَرَقَّبُ (and) was vigilant, فَإِذَا when behold! ٱلَّذِى The one who ٱسْتَنصَرَهُۥ sought his help بِٱلْأَمْسِ the previous day يَسْتَصْرِخُهُۥ cried out to him for help. قَالَ Said لَهُۥ to him مُوسَىٰٓ Musa, إِنَّكَ "Indeed, you لَغَوِىٌّ (are) surely a deviator مُّبِينٌ clear."
English - And he became inside the city fearful and anticipating [exposure], when suddenly the one who sought his help the previous day cried out to him [once again]. Moses said to him, “Indeed, you are an evident, [persistent] deviator.” .
Ayah 19
فَلَمَّآ Then when أَنْ [that] أَرَادَ he wanted أَن to يَبْطِشَ strike بِٱلَّذِى the one who هُوَ [he] (was) عَدُوٌّ an enemy لَّهُمَا to both of them, قَالَ he said, يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ "O Musa! أَتُرِيدُ Do you intend أَن to تَقْتُلَنِى kill me كَمَا as قَتَلْتَ you killed نَفْسًۢا a person بِٱلْأَمْسِ yesterday? إِن Not تُرِيدُ you want إِلَّآ but أَن that تَكُونَ you become جَبَّارًا a tyrant فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth, وَمَا and not تُرِيدُ you want أَن that تَكُونَ you be مِنَ of ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ the reformers."
English - And when he wanted to strike the one who was an enemy to both of them, he said, “O Moses, do you intend to kill me as you killed someone yesterday? You only want to be a tyrant in the land and do not want to be of the amenders.” .
Ayah 20
وَجَآءَ And came رَجُلٌ a man مِّنْ from أَقْصَا (the) farthest end ٱلْمَدِينَةِ (of) the city يَسْعَىٰ running. قَالَ He said, يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ "O Musa! إِنَّ Indeed, ٱلْمَلَأَ the chiefs يَأْتَمِرُونَ are taking counsel بِكَ about you لِيَقْتُلُوكَ to kill you, فَٱخْرُجْ so leave; إِنِّى indeed, I am لَكَ to you مِنَ of ٱلنَّٰصِحِينَ the sincere advisors."
English - And a man came from the farthest end of the city, running. He said, “O Moses, indeed the eminent ones are conferring over you [intending] to kill you, so leave [the city]; indeed, I am to you of the sincere advisors.” .
Ayah 21
فَخَرَجَ So he left مِنْهَا from it خَآئِفًا fearing, يَتَرَقَّبُ (and) vigilant. قَالَ He said, رَبِّ "My Lord! نَجِّنِى Save me مِنَ from ٱلْقَوْمِ the people - ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers."
English - So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, “My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people.” .
Ayah 22
وَلَمَّا And when تَوَجَّهَ he turned his face تِلْقَآءَ towards مَدْيَنَ Madyan, قَالَ he said, عَسَىٰ "Perhaps رَبِّىٓ my Lord أَن [that] يَهْدِيَنِى will guide me سَوَآءَ (to the) sound ٱلسَّبِيلِ way."
English - And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, “Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way.” .
Ayah 23
وَلَمَّا And when وَرَدَ he came مَآءَ (to the) water مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan, وَجَدَ he found عَلَيْهِ on it أُمَّةً a group مِّنَ of ٱلنَّاسِ men يَسْقُونَ watering, وَوَجَدَ and he found مِن besides them دُونِهِمُ besides them ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ two women تَذُودَانِ keeping back. قَالَ He said, مَا "What خَطْبُكُمَا (is the) matter with both of you?" قَالَتَا They said, لَا "We cannot water نَسْقِى "We cannot water حَتَّىٰ until يُصْدِرَ take away ٱلرِّعَآءُ the shepherds; وَأَبُونَا and our father شَيْخٌ (is) a very old man." كَبِيرٌ (is) a very old man."
English - And when he came to the well of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women driving back [their flocks]. He said, “What is your circumstance?” They said, “We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man.” .
Ayah 24
فَسَقَىٰ So he watered لَهُمَا for them. ثُمَّ Then تَوَلَّىٰٓ he turned back إِلَى to ٱلظِّلِّ the shade فَقَالَ and said, رَبِّ "My Lord! إِنِّى Indeed, I am لِمَآ of whatever أَنزَلْتَ You send إِلَىَّ to me مِنْ of خَيْرٍ good فَقِيرٌ (in) need."
English - So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, “My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.” .
Ayah 25
فَجَآءَتْهُ Then came to him إِحْدَىٰهُمَا one of the two women تَمْشِى walking عَلَى with ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍ shyness. قَالَتْ She said, إِنَّ "Indeed, أَبِى my father يَدْعُوكَ calls you, لِيَجْزِيَكَ that he may reward you أَجْرَ (the) reward مَا (for) what سَقَيْتَ you watered لَنَا for us." فَلَمَّا So when جَآءَهُۥ he came to him وَقَصَّ and narrated عَلَيْهِ to him ٱلْقَصَصَ the story, قَالَ he said, لَا "(Do) not تَخَفْ fear. نَجَوْتَ You have escaped مِنَ from ٱلْقَوْمِ the people - ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers."
English - Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, “Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us.” So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, “Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people.” .
Ayah 26
قَالَتْ Said إِحْدَىٰهُمَا one of them, يَٰٓأَبَتِ "O my father! ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُ Hire him. إِنَّ Indeed, خَيْرَ (the) best مَنِ whom ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ you (can) hire ٱلْقَوِىُّ (is) the strong, ٱلْأَمِينُ the trustworthy."
English - One of the women said, “O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy.” .
Ayah 27
قَالَ He said, إِنِّىٓ "Indeed, I أُرِيدُ [I] wish أَنْ to أُنكِحَكَ marry you to إِحْدَى one ٱبْنَتَىَّ (of) my daughters هَٰتَيْنِ (of) these two عَلَىٰٓ on أَن that تَأْجُرَنِى you serve me, ثَمَٰنِىَ (for) eight حِجَجٍ years; فَإِنْ but if أَتْمَمْتَ you complete عَشْرًا ten, فَمِنْ then from عِندِكَ you. وَمَآ And not أُرِيدُ I wish أَنْ to أَشُقَّ make it difficult عَلَيْكَ for you. سَتَجِدُنِىٓ You will find me, إِن if شَآءَ Allah wills, ٱللَّهُ Allah wills, مِنَ of ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ the righteous."
English - He said, “Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allah wills, from among the righteous.” .
Ayah 28
قَالَ He said, ذَٰلِكَ "That بَيْنِى (is) between me وَبَيْنَكَ and between you. أَيَّمَا Whichever ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ (of) the two terms قَضَيْتُ I complete فَلَا then no عُدْوَٰنَ injustice عَلَىَّ to me, وَٱللَّهُ and Allah, عَلَىٰ over مَا what نَقُولُ we say وَكِيلٌ (is) a Witness."
English - [Moses] said, “That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete – there is no injustice to me, and Allah, over what we say, is Witness.” .
Ayah 29
فَلَمَّا Then when قَضَىٰ Musa fulfilled مُوسَى Musa fulfilled ٱلْأَجَلَ the term وَسَارَ and was traveling بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ with his family, ءَانَسَ he saw مِن in جَانِبِ (the) direction ٱلطُّورِ (of) Mount Tur نَارًا a fire. قَالَ He said لِأَهْلِهِ to his family, ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟ "Stay here; إِنِّىٓ indeed, I ءَانَسْتُ [I] perceive نَارًا a fire. لَّعَلِّىٓ Perhaps ءَاتِيكُم I will bring you مِّنْهَا from there بِخَبَرٍ some information أَوْ or جَذْوَةٍ a burning wood مِّنَ from ٱلنَّارِ the fire لَعَلَّكُمْ so that you may تَصْطَلُونَ warm yourselves."
English - And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, “Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves.” .
Ayah 30
فَلَمَّآ But when أَتَىٰهَا he came (to) it, نُودِىَ he was called مِن from شَٰطِئِ (the) side ٱلْوَادِ (of) the valley - ٱلْأَيْمَنِ the right فِى in ٱلْبُقْعَةِ the place even, ٱلْمُبَٰرَكَةِ blessed, مِنَ from ٱلشَّجَرَةِ the tree أَن that, يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ "O Musa! إِنِّىٓ Indeed, أَنَا I Am ٱللَّهُ Allah, رَبُّ (the) Lord ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ (of) the worlds.
English - But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot – from the tree, “O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds.” .
Ayah 31
وَأَنْ And [that] أَلْقِ throw عَصَاكَ your staff." فَلَمَّا But when رَءَاهَا he saw it تَهْتَزُّ moving كَأَنَّهَا as if it جَآنٌّ (were) a snake وَلَّىٰ he turned مُدْبِرًا (in) flight وَلَمْ and (did) not يُعَقِّبْ return. يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ "O Musa! أَقْبِلْ Draw near وَلَا and (do) not تَخَفْ fear. إِنَّكَ Indeed, you مِنَ (are) of ٱلْءَامِنِينَ the secure.
English - And [he was told], “Throw down your staff.” But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [Allah said], “O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure. .
Ayah 32
ٱسْلُكْ Insert يَدَكَ your hand فِى in جَيْبِكَ your bosom تَخْرُجْ it will come forth بَيْضَآءَ white مِنْ without غَيْرِ without سُوٓءٍ any harm. وَٱضْمُمْ And draw إِلَيْكَ to yourselves جَنَاحَكَ your hand مِنَ against ٱلرَّهْبِ fear. فَذَٰنِكَ So these بُرْهَٰنَانِ (are) two evidences مِن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord, إِلَىٰ to فِرْعَوْنَ Firaun وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦٓ and his chiefs. إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they كَانُوا۟ are قَوْمًا a people فَٰسِقِينَ defiantly disobedient."
English - Insert your hand into the opening of your garment; it will come out white, without disease. And draw in your arm close to you [as prevention] from fear, for those are two proofs from your Lord to Pharaoh and his establishment. Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient.” .
Ayah 33
قَالَ He said, رَبِّ "My Lord! إِنِّى Indeed, قَتَلْتُ I killed مِنْهُمْ of them نَفْسًا a man, فَأَخَافُ and I fear أَن that يَقْتُلُونِ they will kill me.
English - He said, “My Lord, indeed, I killed from among them someone, and I fear they will kill me. .
Ayah 34
وَأَخِى And my brother هَٰرُونُ Harun, هُوَ he أَفْصَحُ (is) more eloquent مِنِّى than me لِسَانًا (in) speech, فَأَرْسِلْهُ so send him مَعِىَ with me رِدْءًا (as) a helper, يُصَدِّقُنِىٓ who will confirm me. إِنِّىٓ Indeed, أَخَافُ I fear أَن that يُكَذِّبُونِ they will deny me."
English - And my brother Aaron is more fluent than me in tongue, so send him with me as support, verifying me. Indeed, I fear that they will deny me.” .
Ayah 35
قَالَ He said, سَنَشُدُّ "We will strengthen عَضُدَكَ your arm بِأَخِيكَ through your brother وَنَجْعَلُ and We will make لَكُمَا for both of you سُلْطَٰنًا an authority, فَلَا so not يَصِلُونَ they will reach إِلَيْكُمَا to both of you. بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ Through Our Signs أَنتُمَا you two وَمَنِ and (those) who ٱتَّبَعَكُمَا follow you, ٱلْغَٰلِبُونَ (will) be the dominant."
English - [Allah] said, “We will strengthen your arm through your brother and grant you both supremacy so they will not reach you. [It will be] through Our signs; you and those who follow you will be the predominant.” .
Ayah 36
فَلَمَّا But when جَآءَهُم came to them مُّوسَىٰ Musa بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا with Our Signs بَيِّنَٰتٍ clear, قَالُوا۟ they said, مَا "Not هَٰذَآ (is) this إِلَّا except سِحْرٌ a magic مُّفْتَرًى invented, وَمَا and not سَمِعْنَا we heard بِهَٰذَا of this فِىٓ among ءَابَآئِنَا our forefathers." ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ our forefathers."
English - But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, “This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers.” .
Ayah 37
وَقَالَ And Musa said, مُوسَىٰ And Musa said, رَبِّىٓ "My Lord أَعْلَمُ knows best بِمَن of who جَآءَ has come بِٱلْهُدَىٰ with [the] guidance مِنْ from Him عِندِهِۦ from Him وَمَن and who - تَكُونُ will be لَهُۥ for him عَٰقِبَةُ the good end in the Hereafter. ٱلدَّارِ the good end in the Hereafter. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, لَا not يُفْلِحُ will be successful ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ the wrongdoers."
English - And Moses said, “My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home. Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed.” .
Ayah 38
وَقَالَ And Firaun said, فِرْعَوْنُ And Firaun said, يَٰٓأَيُّهَا "O chiefs! ٱلْمَلَأُ "O chiefs! مَا Not عَلِمْتُ I know لَكُم for you مِّنْ any إِلَٰهٍ god غَيْرِى other than me. فَأَوْقِدْ So kindle لِى for me يَٰهَٰمَٰنُ O Haman! عَلَى Upon ٱلطِّينِ the clay فَٱجْعَل and make, لِّى for me صَرْحًا a lofty tower لَّعَلِّىٓ so that [I] أَطَّلِعُ I may look إِلَىٰٓ at إِلَٰهِ (the) God مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa. وَإِنِّى And indeed, I لَأَظُنُّهُۥ [I] think that he مِنَ (is) of ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ the liars."
English - And Pharaoh said, “O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Haman, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars.” .
Ayah 39
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ And he was arrogant, هُوَ And he was arrogant, وَجُنُودُهُۥ and his hosts فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the land بِغَيْرِ without ٱلْحَقِّ right, وَظَنُّوٓا۟ and they thought أَنَّهُمْ that they إِلَيْنَا to Us لَا not يُرْجَعُونَ will be returned.
English - And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us. .
Ayah 40
فَأَخَذْنَٰهُ So We seized him وَجُنُودَهُۥ and his hosts, فَنَبَذْنَٰهُمْ and We threw them فِى in ٱلْيَمِّ the sea. فَٱنظُرْ So see كَيْفَ how كَانَ was عَٰقِبَةُ (the) end ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ (of) the wrongdoers.
English - So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers. .
Ayah 41
وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ And We made them أَئِمَّةً leaders يَدْعُونَ inviting إِلَى to ٱلنَّارِ the Fire, وَيَوْمَ and (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection لَا not يُنصَرُونَ they will be helped.
English - And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped. .
Ayah 42
وَأَتْبَعْنَٰهُمْ And We caused to follow them فِى in هَٰذِهِ this ٱلدُّنْيَا world لَعْنَةً a curse, وَيَوْمَ and (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection هُم they مِّنَ (will be) of ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ the despised.
English - And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised. .
Ayah 43
وَلَقَدْ And verily, ءَاتَيْنَا We gave مُوسَى Musa ٱلْكِتَٰبَ the Scripture, مِنۢ after [what] بَعْدِ after [what] مَآ after [what] أَهْلَكْنَا We had destroyed ٱلْقُرُونَ the generations ٱلْأُولَىٰ former بَصَآئِرَ (as) an enlightenment لِلنَّاسِ for the mankind وَهُدًى and a guidance وَرَحْمَةً and mercy لَّعَلَّهُمْ that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember.
English - And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded. .
Ayah 44
وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were بِجَانِبِ on (the) side ٱلْغَرْبِىِّ western إِذْ when قَضَيْنَآ We decreed إِلَىٰ to مُوسَى Musa ٱلْأَمْرَ the Commandment وَمَا and not كُنتَ you were مِنَ among ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ the witnesses.
English - And you, [O Muhammad], were not on the western side [of the mount] when We revealed to Moses the command, and you were not among the witnesses [to that]. .
Ayah 45
وَلَٰكِنَّآ But We أَنشَأْنَا [We] produced قُرُونًا generations فَتَطَاوَلَ and prolonged عَلَيْهِمُ for them ٱلْعُمُرُ the life. وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were ثَاوِيًا a dweller فِىٓ among أَهْلِ (the) people مَدْيَنَ (of) Madyan, تَتْلُوا۟ reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَٰتِنَا Our Verses, وَلَٰكِنَّا but We كُنَّا [We] were مُرْسِلِينَ the Senders.
English - But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration. And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message]. .
Ayah 46
وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were بِجَانِبِ at (the) side ٱلطُّورِ (of) the Tur إِذْ when نَادَيْنَا We called. وَلَٰكِن But رَّحْمَةً (as) a mercy مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord لِتُنذِرَ so that you warn قَوْمًا a people مَّآ not أَتَىٰهُم (had) come to them مِّن any نَّذِيرٍ warner مِّن before you قَبْلِكَ before you لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember.
English - And you were not at the side of the mount when We called [Moses] but [were sent] as a mercy from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner had come before you that they might be reminded. .
Ayah 47
وَلَوْلَآ And if not أَن [that] تُصِيبَهُم struck them مُّصِيبَةٌۢ a disaster بِمَا for what قَدَّمَتْ had sent forth أَيْدِيهِمْ their hands فَيَقُولُوا۟ and they would say, رَبَّنَا "Our Lord! لَوْلَآ Why not أَرْسَلْتَ You sent إِلَيْنَا to us رَسُولًا a Messenger فَنَتَّبِعَ so we (could have) followed ءَايَٰتِكَ Your Verses وَنَكُونَ and we (would) have been مِنَ of ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ the believers?"
English - And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, “Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?”… .
Ayah 48
فَلَمَّا But when جَآءَهُمُ came to them ٱلْحَقُّ the truth مِنْ from Us عِندِنَا from Us قَالُوا۟ they said, لَوْلَآ "Why not أُوتِىَ he was given مِثْلَ (the) like مَآ (of) what أُوتِىَ was given مُوسَىٰٓ (to) Musa?" أَوَلَمْ Did not يَكْفُرُوا۟ they disbelieve بِمَآ in what أُوتِىَ was given مُوسَىٰ (to) Musa مِن before? قَبْلُ before? قَالُوا۟ They said, سِحْرَانِ "Two magic (works) تَظَٰهَرَا supporting each other." وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they said, إِنَّا "Indeed, we بِكُلٍّ in all كَٰفِرُونَ (are) disbelievers."
English - But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, “Why was he not given like that which was given to Moses?” Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Moses before? They said, “[They are but] two works of magic supporting each other, and indeed we are, in both, disbelievers.” .
Ayah 49
قُلْ Say, فَأْتُوا۟ "Then bring بِكِتَٰبٍ a Book مِّنْ from Allah, عِندِ from Allah, ٱللَّهِ from Allah, هُوَ which أَهْدَىٰ (is) a better guide مِنْهُمَآ than both of them أَتَّبِعْهُ that I may follow it, إِن if كُنتُمْ you are صَٰدِقِينَ truthful."
English - Say, “Then bring a scripture from Allah which is more guiding than either of them that I may follow it, if you should be truthful.” .
Ayah 50
فَإِن But if لَّمْ not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they respond لَكَ to you, فَٱعْلَمْ then know أَنَّمَا that only يَتَّبِعُونَ they follow أَهْوَآءَهُمْ their desires. وَمَنْ And who أَضَلُّ (is) more astray مِمَّنِ than (one) who ٱتَّبَعَ follows هَوَىٰهُ his own desire بِغَيْرِ without هُدًى guidance مِّنَ from ٱللَّهِ Allah? إِنَّ Indeed, ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يَهْدِى guide ٱلْقَوْمَ the people - ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ the wrongdoers.
English - But if they do not respond to you – then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. .
Ayah 51
وَلَقَدْ And indeed, وَصَّلْنَا We have conveyed لَهُمُ to them ٱلْقَوْلَ the Word لَعَلَّهُمْ so that they may يَتَذَكَّرُونَ remember.
English - And We have [repeatedly] conveyed to them the Qur’an that they might be reminded. .
Ayah 52
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who, ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ We gave them ٱلْكِتَٰبَ the Scripture مِن before it, قَبْلِهِۦ before it, هُم they بِهِۦ in it يُؤْمِنُونَ believe.
English - Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it – they are believers in it. .
Ayah 53
وَإِذَا And when يُتْلَىٰ it is recited عَلَيْهِمْ to them قَالُوٓا۟ they say, ءَامَنَّا "We believe بِهِۦٓ in it. إِنَّهُ Indeed, it ٱلْحَقُّ (is) the truth مِن from رَّبِّنَآ our Lord. إِنَّا Indeed, we كُنَّا [we] were مِن before it قَبْلِهِۦ before it مُسْلِمِينَ Muslims."
English - And when it is recited to them, they say, “We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [submitting to Allah].” .
Ayah 54
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those يُؤْتَوْنَ will be given أَجْرَهُم their reward مَّرَّتَيْنِ twice بِمَا because صَبَرُوا۟ they are patient وَيَدْرَءُونَ and they repel بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with good - ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ the evil وَمِمَّا and from what رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ they spend.
English - Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend. .
Ayah 55
وَإِذَا And when سَمِعُوا۟ they hear ٱللَّغْوَ vain talk, أَعْرَضُوا۟ they turn away عَنْهُ from it وَقَالُوا۟ and say, لَنَآ "For us أَعْمَٰلُنَا our deeds وَلَكُمْ and for you أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ your deeds. سَلَٰمٌ Peace (be) عَلَيْكُمْ on you; لَا not نَبْتَغِى we seek ٱلْجَٰهِلِينَ the ignorant."
English - And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, “For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant.” .
Ayah 56
إِنَّكَ Indeed, you لَا (can) not تَهْدِى guide مَنْ whom أَحْبَبْتَ you love, وَلَٰكِنَّ but ٱللَّهَ Allah يَهْدِى guides مَن whom يَشَآءُ He wills. وَهُوَ And He أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ (of) the guided ones.
English - Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. .
Ayah 57
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they say, إِن "If نَّتَّبِعِ we follow ٱلْهُدَىٰ the guidance مَعَكَ with you, نُتَخَطَّفْ we would be swept مِنْ from أَرْضِنَآ our land." أَوَلَمْ Have not نُمَكِّن We established لَّهُمْ for them حَرَمًا a sanctuary ءَامِنًا secure, يُجْبَىٰٓ are brought إِلَيْهِ to it ثَمَرَٰتُ fruits كُلِّ (of) all شَىْءٍ things, رِّزْقًا a provision مِّن from لَّدُنَّا Us? وَلَٰكِنَّ But أَكْثَرَهُمْ most of them لَا (do) not يَعْلَمُونَ know.
English - And they say, “If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land.” Have we not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know. .
Ayah 58
وَكَمْ And how many أَهْلَكْنَا We have destroyed مِن of قَرْيَةٍۭ a town بَطِرَتْ which exulted, مَعِيشَتَهَا (in) its means of livelihood. فَتِلْكَ And these مَسَٰكِنُهُمْ (are) their dwellings لَمْ not تُسْكَن have been inhabited مِّنۢ after them بَعْدِهِمْ after them إِلَّا except قَلِيلًا a little. وَكُنَّا And indeed, [We] نَحْنُ We ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ (are) the inheritors.
English - And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its [way of] living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors. .
Ayah 59
وَمَا And not كَانَ was رَبُّكَ your Lord مُهْلِكَ (the) one to destroy ٱلْقُرَىٰ the towns حَتَّىٰ until يَبْعَثَ He (had) sent فِىٓ in أُمِّهَا their mother (town) رَسُولًا a Messenger يَتْلُوا۟ reciting عَلَيْهِمْ to them ءَايَٰتِنَا Our Verses. وَمَا And not كُنَّا We would be مُهْلِكِى (the) one to destroy ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ the towns إِلَّا except وَأَهْلُهَا while their people ظَٰلِمُونَ (were) wrongdoers.
English - And never would your Lord have destroyed the cities until He had sent to their mother a messenger reciting to them Our verses. And We would not destroy the cities except while their people were wrongdoers. .
Ayah 60
وَمَآ And whatever أُوتِيتُم you have been given مِّن from شَىْءٍ things, فَمَتَٰعُ (is) an enjoyment ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of the) life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world وَزِينَتُهَا and its adornment. وَمَا And what عِندَ (is) with ٱللَّهِ Allah, خَيْرٌ (is) better وَأَبْقَىٰٓ and more lasting. أَفَلَا So (will) not تَعْقِلُونَ you use intellect?
English - And whatever thing you [people] have been given – it is [only for] the enjoyment of worldly life and its adornment. And what is with Allah is better and more lasting; so will you not use reason? .
Ayah 61
أَفَمَن Then is (he) whom وَعَدْنَٰهُ We have promised him وَعْدًا a promise حَسَنًا good, فَهُوَ and he لَٰقِيهِ (will) meet it, كَمَن like (the one) whom مَّتَّعْنَٰهُ We provided him مَتَٰعَ enjoyment ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ (of the) life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world ثُمَّ then هُوَ he يَوْمَ (on the) Day ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection مِنَ (will be) among ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ those presented?
English - Then is he whom We have promised a good promise which he will obtain like he for whom We provided enjoyment of worldly life [but] then he is, on the Day of Resurrection, among those presented [for punishment in Hell]? .
Ayah 62
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them فَيَقُولُ and say, أَيْنَ "Where, شُرَكَآءِىَ (are) My partners ٱلَّذِينَ whom كُنتُمْ you used (to) تَزْعُمُونَ claim?"
English - And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, “Where are My ‘partners’ which you used to claim?” .
Ayah 63
قَالَ (Will) say ٱلَّذِينَ those - حَقَّ (has) come true عَلَيْهِمُ against whom ٱلْقَوْلُ the Word, رَبَّنَا "Our Lord! هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ These ٱلَّذِينَ (are) those whom أَغْوَيْنَآ we led astray. أَغْوَيْنَٰهُمْ We led them astray كَمَا as غَوَيْنَا we were astray. تَبَرَّأْنَآ We declare our innocence إِلَيْكَ before You. مَا Not كَانُوٓا۟ they used (to) إِيَّانَا worship us." يَعْبُدُونَ worship us."
English - Those upon whom the word will have come into effect will say, “Our Lord, these are the ones we led to error. We led them to error just as we were in error. We declare our disassociation [from them] to You. They did not used to worship us.” .
Ayah 64
وَقِيلَ And it will be said, ٱدْعُوا۟ "Call شُرَكَآءَكُمْ your partners." فَدَعَوْهُمْ And they will call them, فَلَمْ but not يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ they will respond لَهُمْ to them وَرَأَوُا۟ and they will see ٱلْعَذَابَ the punishment. لَوْ If only أَنَّهُمْ [that] they كَانُوا۟ had been يَهْتَدُونَ guided!
English - And it will be said, “Invoke your ‘partners’ ” and they will invoke them; but they will not respond to them, and they will see the punishment. If only they had followed guidance! .
Ayah 65
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them فَيَقُولُ and say, مَاذَآ "What أَجَبْتُمُ did you answer ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ the Messengers?"
English - And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, “What did you answer the messengers?” .
Ayah 66
فَعَمِيَتْ But (will) be obscure عَلَيْهِمُ to them ٱلْأَنۢبَآءُ the information يَوْمَئِذٍ that day, فَهُمْ so they لَا will not ask one another. يَتَسَآءَلُونَ will not ask one another.
English - But the information will be unapparent to them that Day, so they will not [be able to] ask one another. .
Ayah 67
فَأَمَّا But as for مَن (him) who تَابَ repented وَءَامَنَ and believed, وَعَمِلَ and did صَٰلِحًا righteousness, فَعَسَىٰٓ then perhaps أَن [that] يَكُونَ he will be مِنَ of ٱلْمُفْلِحِينَ the successful ones.
English - But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is promised by Allah that he will be among the successful. .
Ayah 68
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord يَخْلُقُ creates مَا what يَشَآءُ He wills وَيَخْتَارُ and chooses. مَا Not كَانَ they have لَهُمُ for them ٱلْخِيَرَةُ the choice. سُبْحَٰنَ Glory be ٱللَّهِ (to) Allah وَتَعَٰلَىٰ and High is He عَمَّا above what يُشْرِكُونَ they associate (with Him).
English - And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allah and high above what they associate with Him. .
Ayah 69
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord يَعْلَمُ knows مَا what تُكِنُّ conceals صُدُورُهُمْ their breasts وَمَا and what يُعْلِنُونَ they declare.
English - And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare. .
Ayah 70
وَهُوَ And He ٱللَّهُ (is) Allah; لَآ (there is) no إِلَٰهَ god إِلَّا but هُوَ He. لَهُ To Him ٱلْحَمْدُ (are due) all praises فِى in ٱلْأُولَىٰ the first وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ and the last. وَلَهُ And for Him ٱلْحُكْمُ (is) the Decision, وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned.
English - And He is Allah; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned. .
Ayah 71
قُلْ Say, أَرَءَيْتُمْ "Have you seen إِن if جَعَلَ Allah made ٱللَّهُ Allah made عَلَيْكُمُ for you ٱلَّيْلَ the night سَرْمَدًا continuous إِلَىٰ till يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection, مَنْ who إِلَٰهٌ (is the) god غَيْرُ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah يَأْتِيكُم who could bring you بِضِيَآءٍ light? أَفَلَا Then will not تَسْمَعُونَ you hear?"
English - Say, “Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the night continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light? Then will you not hear?” .
Ayah 72
قُلْ Say, أَرَءَيْتُمْ "Have you seen إِن if جَعَلَ Allah made ٱللَّهُ Allah made عَلَيْكُمُ for you ٱلنَّهَارَ the day سَرْمَدًا continuous إِلَىٰ till يَوْمِ (the) Day ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ (of) the Resurrection, مَنْ who إِلَٰهٌ (is the) god غَيْرُ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah يَأْتِيكُم who could bring you بِلَيْلٍ night تَسْكُنُونَ (for) you (to) rest فِيهِ in it? أَفَلَا Then will not تُبْصِرُونَ you see?"
English - Say, “Have you considered: if Allah should make for you the day continuous until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?” .
Ayah 73
وَمِن And from رَّحْمَتِهِۦ His Mercy جَعَلَ He made لَكُمُ for you ٱلَّيْلَ the night وَٱلنَّهَارَ and the day, لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ that you may rest فِيهِ therein وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ and that you may seek مِن from فَضْلِهِۦ His Bounty, وَلَعَلَّكُمْ and so that you may تَشْكُرُونَ be grateful.
English - And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful. .
Ayah 74
وَيَوْمَ And (the) Day يُنَادِيهِمْ He will call them فَيَقُولُ and say, أَيْنَ "Where شُرَكَآءِىَ (are) My partners ٱلَّذِينَ whom كُنتُمْ you used (to) تَزْعُمُونَ claim?"
English - And [warn of] the Day He will call them and say, “Where are my ‘partners’ which you used to claim?” .
Ayah 75
وَنَزَعْنَا And We will draw forth مِن from كُلِّ every أُمَّةٍ nation شَهِيدًا a witness فَقُلْنَا and We will say, هَاتُوا۟ "Bring بُرْهَٰنَكُمْ your proof?" فَعَلِمُوٓا۟ Then they will know أَنَّ that ٱلْحَقَّ the truth لِلَّهِ (is) for Allah وَضَلَّ and (will be) lost عَنْهُم from them مَّا what كَانُوا۟ they used (to) يَفْتَرُونَ invent.
English - And We will extract from every nation a witness and say, “Produce your proof,” and they will know that the truth belongs to Allah, and lost from them is that which they used to invent. .
Ayah 76
إِنَّ Indeed, قَٰرُونَ Qarun, كَانَ was مِن from قَوْمِ (the) people مُوسَىٰ (of) Musa, فَبَغَىٰ but he oppressed عَلَيْهِمْ [on] them. وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ And We gave him مِنَ of ٱلْكُنُوزِ the treasures مَآ which إِنَّ indeed مَفَاتِحَهُۥ (the) keys of it لَتَنُوٓأُ would burden بِٱلْعُصْبَةِ a company (of men) أُو۟لِى possessors of great strength. ٱلْقُوَّةِ possessors of great strength. إِذْ When قَالَ said لَهُۥ to him قَوْمُهُۥ his people, لَا "(Do) not تَفْرَحْ exult. إِنَّ Indeed, ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُحِبُّ love ٱلْفَرِحِينَ the exultant.
English - Indeed, Qarūn was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, “Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant. .
Ayah 77
وَٱبْتَغِ But seek, فِيمَآ through what ءَاتَىٰكَ Allah has given you, ٱللَّهُ Allah has given you, ٱلدَّارَ the home ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ (of) the Hereafter, وَلَا and (do) not تَنسَ forget نَصِيبَكَ your share مِنَ of ٱلدُّنْيَا the world. وَأَحْسِن And do good كَمَآ as أَحْسَنَ Allah has been good ٱللَّهُ Allah has been good إِلَيْكَ to you. وَلَا And (do) not تَبْغِ seek ٱلْفَسَادَ corruption فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth. إِنَّ Indeed, ٱللَّهَ Allah لَا (does) not يُحِبُّ love ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ the corrupters."
English - But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters.” .
Ayah 78
قَالَ He said, إِنَّمَآ "Only أُوتِيتُهُۥ I have been given it عَلَىٰ on (account) عِلْمٍ (of) knowledge عِندِىٓ I have." أَوَلَمْ Did not يَعْلَمْ he know أَنَّ that ٱللَّهَ Allah قَدْ indeed أَهْلَكَ destroyed مِن before him قَبْلِهِۦ before him مِنَ of ٱلْقُرُونِ the generations مَنْ who هُوَ [they] أَشَدُّ (were) stronger مِنْهُ than him قُوَّةً (in) strength وَأَكْثَرُ and greater جَمْعًا (in) accumulation. وَلَا And not يُسْـَٔلُ will be questioned عَن about ذُنُوبِهِمُ their sins ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ the criminals.
English - He said, “I was only given it because of knowledge I have.” Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked. .
Ayah 79
فَخَرَجَ So he went forth عَلَىٰ to قَوْمِهِۦ his people فِى in زِينَتِهِۦ his adornment. قَالَ Said ٱلَّذِينَ those who يُرِيدُونَ desire ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ the life ٱلدُّنْيَا (of) the world, يَٰلَيْتَ "O! Would that لَنَا for us مِثْلَ (the) like مَآ (of) what أُوتِىَ has been given قَٰرُونُ (to) Qarun. إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he لَذُو (is the) owner حَظٍّ (of) fortune عَظِيمٍ great."
English - So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, “Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qarūn. Indeed, he is one of great fortune.” .
Ayah 80
وَقَالَ But said ٱلَّذِينَ those who أُوتُوا۟ were given ٱلْعِلْمَ the knowledge, وَيْلَكُمْ "Woe to you! ثَوَابُ (The) reward ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah خَيْرٌ (is) better لِّمَنْ for (he) who ءَامَنَ believes وَعَمِلَ and does صَٰلِحًا righteous (deeds). وَلَا And not يُلَقَّىٰهَآ it is granted إِلَّا except ٱلصَّٰبِرُونَ (to) the patient ones."
English - But those who had been given knowledge said, “Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient.” .
Ayah 81
فَخَسَفْنَا Then We caused to swallow up, بِهِۦ him وَبِدَارِهِ and his home, ٱلْأَرْضَ the earth. فَمَا Then not كَانَ was لَهُۥ for him مِن any فِئَةٍ group يَنصُرُونَهُۥ (to) help him مِن besides دُونِ besides ٱللَّهِ Allah, وَمَا and not كَانَ was مِنَ (he) of ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ those who (could) defend themselves.
English - And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allah, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves. .
Ayah 82
وَأَصْبَحَ And began, ٱلَّذِينَ those who تَمَنَّوْا۟ (had) wished مَكَانَهُۥ his position بِٱلْأَمْسِ the day before يَقُولُونَ (to) say, وَيْكَأَنَّ "Ah! That ٱللَّهَ Allah يَبْسُطُ extends ٱلرِّزْقَ the provision لِمَن for whom يَشَآءُ He wills مِنْ of عِبَادِهِۦ His slaves, وَيَقْدِرُ and restricts it. لَوْلَآ If not أَن that مَّنَّ Allah had favored ٱللَّهُ Allah had favored عَلَيْنَا [to] us لَخَسَفَ He would have caused it to swallow us. بِنَا He would have caused it to swallow us. وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ Ah! That لَا not يُفْلِحُ will succeed ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ the disbelievers."
English - And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, “Oh, how Allah extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allah had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!” .
Ayah 83
تِلْكَ That ٱلدَّارُ the Home ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ (of) the Hereafter نَجْعَلُهَا We assign it لِلَّذِينَ to those who لَا (do) not يُرِيدُونَ desire عُلُوًّا exaltedness فِى in ٱلْأَرْضِ the earth وَلَا and not فَسَادًا corruption. وَٱلْعَٰقِبَةُ And the good end لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (is) for the righteous.
English - That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous. .
Ayah 84
مَن Whoever جَآءَ comes بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ with a good (deed) فَلَهُۥ then for him, خَيْرٌ (will be) better مِّنْهَا than it; وَمَن and whoever جَآءَ comes بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ with an evil (deed) فَلَا then not يُجْزَى will be recompensed ٱلَّذِينَ those who عَمِلُوا۟ do ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ the evil (deeds) إِلَّا except مَا what كَانُوا۟ they used (to) يَعْمَلُونَ do.
English - Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgment] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed – then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do. .
Ayah 85
إِنَّ Indeed, ٱلَّذِى He Who فَرَضَ ordained عَلَيْكَ upon you ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran لَرَآدُّكَ (will) surely take you back إِلَىٰ to مَعَادٍ a place of return. قُل Say, رَّبِّىٓ "My Lord أَعْلَمُ (is) most knowing مَن (of him) who جَآءَ comes بِٱلْهُدَىٰ with the guidance, وَمَنْ and who - هُوَ he فِى (is) in ضَلَٰلٍ an error مُّبِينٍ manifest."
English - Indeed, [O Muhammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’an will take you back to a place of return. Say, “My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error.” .
Ayah 86
وَمَا And not كُنتَ you were تَرْجُوٓا۟ expecting أَن that يُلْقَىٰٓ would be sent down إِلَيْكَ to you ٱلْكِتَٰبُ the Book, إِلَّا except رَحْمَةً (as) a mercy مِّن from رَّبِّكَ your Lord. فَلَا So (do) not تَكُونَنَّ be ظَهِيرًا an assistant لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ to the disbelievers.
English - And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers. .
Ayah 87
وَلَا And (let) not يَصُدُّنَّكَ avert you عَنْ from ءَايَٰتِ (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ (of) Allah بَعْدَ after إِذْ [when] أُنزِلَتْ they have been revealed إِلَيْكَ to you. وَٱدْعُ And invite (people) إِلَىٰ to رَبِّكَ your Lord. وَلَا And (do) not تَكُونَنَّ be مِنَ of ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ the polytheists.
English - And never let them avert you from the verses of Allah after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allah. .
Ayah 88
وَلَا And (do) not تَدْعُ invoke مَعَ with ٱللَّهِ Allah إِلَٰهًا god ءَاخَرَ other. لَآ (There is) no إِلَٰهَ god إِلَّا except هُوَ Him. كُلُّ Every شَىْءٍ thing هَالِكٌ (will be) destroyed إِلَّا except وَجْهَهُۥ His Face. لَهُ To Him ٱلْحُكْمُ (is) the Decision, وَإِلَيْهِ and to Him تُرْجَعُونَ you will be returned.
English - And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgment, and to Him you will be returned. .
